Objective: To provide free income tax preparation for low to moderate income level clients. Use knowledge of federal, state, and local tax does and publications to either, screen tax payers, prepare returns and/or quality review the prepared return to ensure that the taxpayer does not pay undue taxes and receives appropriate credits.
Major responsibilities:
- Interview clients and input data into benefits screening program(s) to evaluate client's eligibility for public benefits.
- Assist clients with next steps produced from screening.
Qualifications:
- Software training (2-4 hours)--use of software and other administrative issues
- Strong computer skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Training required:
Must complete TaxWise and VITA training through the Internal Revenue SErvice and pass the IRS certification exam with a score of 80% or above; volunteer orientation by Volunteer Coordinator, assigned supervisor, and staff.
Time and Place:
Flexible time (2 hour minimum per week)
