Literacy Action

There are a number of ways you can volunteer and become involved with Literacy Action.  Volunteers help us keep our operating expenses down and further our students’ involvement in their education.
Literacy Action needs volunteers year round. Contact Becky Lyons at blyons@literacyaction.org or (404) 818-7334 for more information about the process.  Training and time commitments vary depending on the volunteer role. Our priority is to match your skills and interests with the specific classroom needs.
Specific volunteer opportunities include:
  • Classroom Assistant – Assist instructors in reading, math, work skills, GED, and computer courses.  Work with small groups or individual students, monitor classroom activities and grade papers.
  • Tutor students in small group settings or individually in reading, math, GED coursework and writing.
  • Computer Lab / Learning Lab Instructor or assistant to help students with GED software, reading, writing and math and direct them to learning resources.
  • Workshops for students in areas of financial literacy, health and wellness, women’s and children’s issues, job interview preparedness and resume writing.
  • Administrative assistance.
  • Event planning and fundraising – Help in development efforts to support increased class offerings and free classes for more students.
  • Special event speakers.

Delivered Vessels

Help us put an end to child sexual abuse and exploitation of children. Demonstrate your shared commitment to the eradication of this horrific instance that has plagued our children long enough. Together we make a difference- but first it starts with you-won't you join us?

We need students to help at a local charter school in Cobb County near Fulton County line. We are looking for student volunteers that would be interested in tutoring students from 3rd-8th grades in Math and Reading.

If interested in volunteering contact Chandra Southern by emailing info@deliveredvessels.org.

Student Press Law Center

The Student Press Law Center is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3)
nonprofit based in the Washington, D.C., area, and we work closely with a
Georgia affiliate, the Georgia First Amendment Foundation, on issues
relating to open government and sunshine laws.

We are interested in jointly providing a volunteer opportunity for a
GSU student to work at the GFAF office, or remotely from home, or some
combination of the two, doing outreach work for our respective
organizations. We are always in need of assistance with a variety of tasks,
including: monitoring the progress of legislation at the state level,
identifying opportunities for our attorneys to speak and publish articles,
updating the contact list for people to receive our publications, and so on.
We definitely would be able to occupy as much time as the student cared to offer,
and we could tailor the work around the student's areas of
interest.

Here are the websites of the two organizations, for more information about
what we do:
